Zimbabwe welcomes travellers from all over the world, but what you need in order to enter depends on your nationality and how you are arriving.

Requirements change. Rather than publish a list here that will quietly go out of date, this page explains how the system works and sends you to the official source for the specifics.

How Zimbabwe’s visa system works

The Zimbabwe Department of Immigration divides visitors into three categories.

Category A — nationals who do not require a visa to enter Zimbabwe.

Category B — nationals who require a visa but may obtain one on arrival, subject to the applicable requirements and fees.

Category C — nationals who must apply for and receive a visa before travelling. Turning up at the border without one will not work.

Which category applies to you is the first thing to establish, and the official immigration website is the place to establish it.

Applying online

Zimbabwe operates an official electronic visa platform. Even where a visa on arrival is available, applying in advance usually means less time standing at the immigration counter after a long flight.

The KAZA Univisa

Zimbabwe and Zambia participate in a shared visa arrangement under the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. For travellers who want to see both sides of Victoria Falls, it can be a simpler and cheaper option than two separate visas.

Eligibility, availability and price are set by the two governments and do change. Confirm current conditions before relying on it.

Before you travel

Check your passport validity and that you have blank pages. Check whether your nationality needs a visa in advance. Have your accommodation details and onward travel to hand. Consider travel insurance, and check any health or vaccination requirements that apply to your route.

If you are adding a Chobe day trip or travelling on to Zambia, check the entry requirements for those countries too — a Zimbabwe visa does not cover them.

Guests going to Chobe cross an international border at Kazungula. Carry your passport and confirm Botswana’s current entry requirements for your nationality before the day.
