The flight in is genuinely good. Coming from the east you cross the Zambezi and, if the pilot is feeling generous, bank over the falls on approach. Have a window seat if you can.
Three airports, two countries
Victoria Falls Airport is the obvious one, about twenty minutes from town, and it takes regional flights from Johannesburg, Harare, Nairobi and other hubs.
Livingstone is across the river in Zambia, and often cheaper. You cross the Victoria Falls Bridge to get here, which is an experience in itself, but it is an international border and it adds time.
Kasane in Botswana is about an hour and a half away and is the practical choice if you are combining the falls with Chobe.

Sort your visa before you fly
This is the one that catches people. Zimbabwe places visitors in three categories: some nationalities need no visa, some can get one at the border, and some must apply in advance. Turning up in the third category without one does not work.
Applying online in advance is worth doing even if you are eligible for a visa on arrival, purely to skip the queue after a long flight.
If you are planning to see the Zambian side too, look at the KAZA Univisa, which covers both countries. Conditions change, so confirm rather than assume.
Money
Bring cash in US dollars, in good condition and in small denominations. Card facilities exist and work, but not everywhere and not always. Nobody is going to have change for a hundred.
The airport shuttle question
We do not run a free airport shuttle, and neither do most places here. Transfers are arranged and charged, which is worth building into your budget rather than discovering at arrivals.
The alternative is a taxi, which is fine, but you are negotiating a fare after a flight rather than getting into a vehicle that was expecting you.
What to do with the first evening
Not very much. The falls deserve a full morning rather than a tired hour, and the light is better early.
Get to the lodge, eat something, and get on the river for the sunset if you have the energy. It is a two hour cruise, it requires nothing of you, and it is a considerably better introduction to the Zambezi than a hotel bar.
